Cruising Port of Call: St. Maarten

We traveled on the Norwegian Gem to St. Maarten (Dutch Side). We opted not to take an excursion so we can spend the day at the beach and shopping in Philipsburg.  We took a 10 minute water taxi that cost us 7 dollars per person to Downtown Philipsburg, St. Maarten.  If your feeling energetic you can walk to downtown through a walking path which takes about 20-30 minutes from the pier.  There was so much to do there for the day. The beach was beautiful, Jet Skiing, Banana Boats, many restaurants to choose from, shopping area, and a chance to rent a Segway. The locals were a little aggressive to get you to purchase the package deal of, lounge chair,  bucket of beers and free wifi.

Our poochie mama loved to be in the water but we weren’t successful in getting her to love the sand. Philipsburg, St Maarten overall was a beautiful island with a great atmosphere full of many exciting things to do.

Oh and Papa Jay for the first time used his GoPro Camera. Click the link to view the video he made of this trip. GoPro Hero 3 Silver Edition

Getting off the Norwegian Gem ramp

We strapped Juliana into the Chicco Liteway stroller at the port. It’s dangerous to let her walk around on her own as soon as you get off the port.  There are no rails or walls on the pier so if you have an active toddler make sure they are secured.

Shopping area as soon as you get off the port.  You can grab a water taxi, a land taxi or just walk to downtown from here

Where you catch the water taxi’s. We didn’t have to wait at all to get into the water taxi.

We took about a 15 minute ride on the Black Shark water taxi to Downtown Philipsburg, St Maarten. On the way back, we took a super fun water taxi. They had great music and entertained people on the taxi…. very friendly and had us singing and dancing lol

Voorstraat Shopping Area

Grandma, Juliana and I walking in the Voorstraat shopping area. It is an active street so beware some vehicles do pass by.

We had Awesome food at Barefoot. Jerk Chicken Breast with Coselaw and rice and beans, Jerk Chicken wings with fries and Goat Roti.

The price ranged around 12-15 dollars a dish.

Juliana enjoyed her grilled cheese sandwich with fries while greeting every one that passed by lol

We could see the Norwegian Cruise ship we were on from the Philipsburg beach
